Every human being by default is spiritually dead; or alienated from God.  When we recognize our alienation from God and the need of a savior; and this is because of the unique work of the Holy Spirit, then if we accept Jesus as Savior and Lord of our life we are born again or saved.

Things to know:

I.   It is by grace that we are saved and not any works that we do.  It is a free gift.

Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

II.  How do I know that I am saved?

Romans 10:9-11 - Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.  For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

III. Remember we do not find Jesus.  He has been looking for us.

Revelations 3:20 - Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with hem, and he with Me.
I John 4:19 - We love Him because He first loved us.
