Preparing Our Hearts for Communion

Today's message is to prepare our hearts for communion.  One way to examine ourselves is to look at the love chapter in I Corinthians.  How do we measure up.  In this portion of scripture it is Agape love.  Agape love is best described as God's unconditional love for his children.

  • Real love is described in I Corinthians 13.  It is this challenge that helps prepare our hearts for communion.

Love is patient and kind

Love rejoice with the truth

Love does not envy or boast Love bears all things
Love is not arrogant or rude Love believes all all things
Love does no insist on its own way. Love hopes all things
Love is not irritable or resentful Love endures all things
Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing
     
Love never ends
  • One of several stories shared was that of the disciple John who is sometimes referred to as the disciple whom Jesus loved.  It seems certain that John had the courage be near the cross at the crucifixion of Jesus.  The presence of the other disciples is not as certain and if present were apparently further back in the crowd.  The thought occurred to me, and I wonder if John who was willing to risk him life more so than others wasn't rewarded with dying a natural death.  Just a thought
