Difficult Times

Mark 8:34-38

Christians deal with some of the same issues as everyone else such as death and taxes.  Christians also deal with difficult situations because they profess Christ.  Believers must remember to respect government authority and be aware of being manipulated for political purposes.

Additional Comments:

  • Carrying the cross is a slow martyrdom.  Resisting 'The World the Flesh and the Devil' (Ephesians 2:1-3) is an ongoing battle.

  • We live in world where the whole creation groans as a result of the fall; sin (Romans 8:22-23)

  • God did not create a dog eat dog world.  Carnivores were not part of the original creation.  This characteristic will not be part of the future kingdom.  (Isaiah 11:6

  • We need the big picture.  We need to be faithful.  Faith is not a long pry bar or a tool.  Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  (Hebrews 11:1)

  • Therefore, continue to serve the hungry, the thirsty, the destitute, and the prisoner.  When you do this unto one of the brethren you do it unto the King.  (Matthew 25:34-40)
