Dry Places

Luke 4:23-30, I Kings 17:1-6 & 18:1-15 & James 5:17

The prophet Elijah was chosen by God to address the apostate times of King Ahab.  The drought was directed by God through the faithful prophet as a judgment on Israel, and it did not rain.  It was a direct strike against their worship of Baal, the fertility god, also called Lord of Rain.

Lessons from the Scriptures:

  • Dry times may be God's way of moving us on

  • There are times to confront and times to hide

  • Isolation can lead the people believing they are alone

This happened to Elijah when he expressed "I am the only one"

  • God's love is broader than we think

From James 5:17 - "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth"

Note: Elijah was a man with a nature like ours.
