"It Is Finished"

 John 20:1-18, Hebrews 12:1-2, John 19:30, Matthew 27:51-52

At the 9th hour, that being 3 in the afternoon, Jesus cried out with a loud voice "It Is Finished' and gave up the Spirit. Four things happened.  The veil of the temple was torn in two.  The earth shook and the rocks splits.  The tombs of many holy people opened and were raised to life.

Other Easter Comments:

  • In Isaiah 53:4-6 the prophet prophesies about 700 years before the savior's death that the form of death would be characteristic of a crucifixion.  Crucifixion is believed to have been invented later by the Persians, about 300-400 BC, and was later perfected by the Romans.

  • Only two of the 70 in the Sanhedrin support Jesus.  They were Joseph and Nicodemus. (John 19:38-39)

  • Is it any wonder that Mary Magdalene wanted to cling to Jesus. (John 20:17)  He had cast seven demons out of her. (Luke 8:2)

  • Hebrews 12:2 tells us that Jesus endured the crucifixion because he knew that after is was over He would be glad that He did.
