What Is Your Stone

I Samuel 16:1-13

Today we will look at five individuals who demonstrated their unwavering faith in God; in some cases not knowing if God would intercede for them or not.  However, they went forward in faith knowing that He is fully capable of delivering.  They are Hanania, Mishael, Azaria, Ruth and David.

Their Acts of Faith:

  • Hanania, Mishael, and Azaris are Hebrew names.  Their Babylonian names were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
In Hebrew:  Hanania means "Yahweh is gracious", Mishael means "Who is what God is", and Azariah mean "Yahweh has helped".  They knew that God was able, but whether he chose to deliver them out of the fiery furnace was His choice.  They had made their choice to stand for God either way.  \o/

  • In the story of Ruth her faith caused her to profess "Where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge.  Your people shall be my people, and your God my God."  Ruth 1:16  Indeed how God blessed.  She was the great grandmother of King David and therefore in the lineage of Jesus.

  • In the story of Dave and Goliath God gave Dave the necessary faith and skill to kill Goliath with the story.

We often make the same mistake that Samuel started to make when he looked on the exterior for the next king of Israel.  However, God looks on the heart.
