Changing Our Clothes

Romans 8:12-17, Ephesians 5:3-14, Ezekiel 18:32

The dress code of Ephesians 5 is one of putting off and then putting on.  We get rid of the old way of life first and then put on the new life.  You do not cover the old way of life with the new way of life.  That would be hypocrisy.  This is true for immorality, etc., as well as greed.

Comments:

  • Baptism represents a form of putting off the old way of life and putting on the new way of life and then rising to go forth.

  • The god's of idols don't exist.

  • We fall when we forget that God is with us.  Forgetting God is to think of him as a little God.

  • Regarding sexual sins, immorality, and greed there should not even be a hint of such.

  • Greed can't give without getting.  Greed places things before God.

  • Filthy talk and crude jokes is what comes out under pressure.  It reveals what is inside us.

  • Putting off also includes darkness and putting on light.  Our life should reflect, like the moon, the light of the Word so that others may see the Lord.

  • Putting off and putting on doesn't just occur once. It is a continual process of being under the control of the Spirit.

  • Wisdom is to walk in the light.
