Sheltered in Place

John 20:19-29, II Timothy 1:7

We learn that the disciples were locked in fear on that first day of the week.  They were afraid of the Jewish leadership.  Then Jesus appeared to them.  His body form was different from that of ours.  It was different from that of Lazarus.  We don't profess to understand but accept by faith.

Additional Comments:

  • Jesus' presence the second time may have been just for Thomas.  It does remind us of His concern for just one of the group; that all should see and believe.  Yet we who haven't seen and believe in the resurrected Jesus have a greater blessing.

  • So why didn't Jesus just show up in front of the Jewish leaders and say here I am any more questions.  The Jewish leaders knew that the resurrection occurred.  They knew it was true yet chose not to believe.  There is never enough evidence to convince a determined unbeliever.

  • Faith accepts the evidence given without require more and rejects bad evidence like the stolen body.  There is always enough evidence to convince the one God calls.

  • With our present situation of COVID-19 change will probably be coming for us.  It did for the disciples in those first weeks after the resurrection.  But like them we press on "for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."  II Timothy 1:7

There is always enough evidence to convince the one God calls.

There is never enough evidence to convince a determined unbeliever.
