Trinity
Sunday follows Easter, Ascension, and Pentecost. The Trinity is the
"Father Son and Holy Spirit." It is important to
renew this belief in the Trinity and pass it on to the younger
generations. Matthew
3:16-17 records at Jesus' baptism the affirmation of the Spirit and
the Father.
Three
errors regarding the Trinity:
-
Tag
Team God - with the tag team error God is diminished when Jesus
comes on the scene. Jesus is diminished when the Holy Spirit
comes on the scene. This is error because we know the
Spirit was present at creation. See Genesis
1:2. John
1:1-2 tells us Jesus was also part of Creation with God.
Additionally, there are other examples throughout the Old Testament
which refer to the presence of Jesus as well as the Spirit.
-
Favoritism,
elevating one part of the Trinity over the other. - We should not
play favorites. As an example remember that the work of the
Spirit is to give glory to Jesus, not to the spirit.
-
Reject
the Trinity - The understanding of the Trinity is beyond our
satisfactory understanding, YET we have been shown enough to call
forth our worship and our praise. The discussion about the
Trinity is ours, not the pagan or unbeliever.
