God is Always in Control

I King17:1-24

This portion of scripture is the well know story that is part of the life of the Prophet Elijah.  He tells King Ahab that there will be neither rain nor dew until Elijah says so.  God then instructed him to go hide by the brook Cherith.  It was there the the Lord provided for his food and drink.  The brook provided the drink and the ravens brought him bread and meat morning and evening.

The brook eventually dried up and the Lord instructed Elijah to go to Zarephath.  It was there that he met the widow who was preparing the last meal for her and her son before they would then die from starvation.  The Lord provided the necessary flour and oil for many days so that both the widow and her son and Elijah had something to eat.  However, the son became ill and died.  The widow linked her sons death to the presence of Elijah and her own sins.  The prophet was deeply troubled by this and took the son and through the power of the Lord brought his life back into him.  The widows reply was "Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth."  I King17:24
