Easter

John 20:1-31, I Corinthians 15:20-28

The Easter account of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection is a reminder of a modern day quote by Yogi Berra; "It ain't over till it's over."  The Jews thought that the death of Jesus put an end to what they saw as a heretical claim to be the Messiah.  He didn't fit their expectations or desires.  The devil, knowing this was God's son, was also pleased thinking it put an end to His claim of providing salvation for all who believe in Him.

However:

  • The Jews were so concerned about his claim that he would rise on the third day that they had the Roman authorities seal the tomb.  You don't mess with a Roman seal.

  • Jesus died on the sixth day, rested on the seventh day, and rose from the grave on the third day.

  • His resurrection was the defeat of the devil and the glorious hope of all believers.

As a Result:

  • The believers work is never finished until Christ returns.

  • His return will result in the dead in Christ rising first followed by those believers who are alive to be with him forever in heaven.

Halleluiah
