Gospel of John

John 1:1-18

Today begins a series on the book of John.  The purpose it that you may believe that Jesus is the son of God.  It was written to combat the heresy that Jesus was just a man.  Jesus was one with God the father.  Not only was Jesus not created but he was creator. Jesus shows us God's mind.

Points to Reinforce:

• The word was a being before the world had a beginning.

• Jesus was with God and was God, a stumbling block to world.

• To take away the supernatural and maintain its meaning is impossible.

• All things were made by him (and for emphasis) without him nothing was made that was made.

• There was light before he created the sun and moon and the stars.

• One of the first acts of God was the separation of light and darkness - kind of a prelude to the end where there is judgment and again the separation of light and darkness.  Today we live in the mix.

• John was big on being a witness.  His goal was persuasion, like in a court of law. 

• In a large part the world still doesn't recognize Jesus.

• The word is Christ and dwells among us.  It is like God's presence in the tabernacle for the Jewish people.

• John saw the transfiguration and knew Christ's glory.

John's goal is to show Christ as the Messiah and Son of God.
