Feeding The Five Thousand

John 6:1-40

The account of feeding the 5000 is recorded in each of the four gospels with Matthew recording that it was 5000 men besides women and children.  It  could have been over 10,000.  After he fed them they concluded that he truly was the prophet, or Messiah, and desired to make him king.

  • Their desire to make him king was a test by the deceiver to short circuit the cross.

  • Jesus told them you seek me for one reason because of the food.

  • He uses that desire to move them in the direction of seeking bread that satisfies not that which is gone in a day.

  • This bread that satisfies is living bread.  Work for bread that endures.

  • Seek the true bread which is eternal life.

  • Jesus admonishes them to believe in him who sent me because everyone who receives the son believes in Him, that is God.

  • We should be so thankful that Jesus was victorious.
