Preparatory Message

Exodus 12:1-13, Luke 22:1-30, John 13:10-11, I Corinthians 11:17-34

Our practice of communion is based on Jesus sharing the last Passover meal with his disciples.  The Passover meal goes back to the meal just before the Exodus of the Children of Israel from Egypt.  Ex 12:2  tells us that Passover marks the first month of the year for religious purposes.

It is interesting that when you combine what we learn in Luke and John.  During this evening of sharing the bread and the cup and foot washing there was also a time of argument over who was the greatest among them.  Yet we read in John 13:10-11 that Jesus told them they are clean, but not all because he knew who would betray him.

Finally, in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 we are told to examine ourselves.  To have unconfused attitudes or actions towards God and/or our fellow man is to disrespect what Christ did on the cross when he gave his life for the sins of all mankind.
