Communion
- A Family Dinner
Exodus
12;21-28 & 24:2-11, Nehemiah
8:9-14, Luke
22:1-18
Today's
communion messages looks at several times in scriptures when important occasions
included the sharing of a meal. Family members have similar resemblances.
As Christians we are a spiritual family and therefore have patterns that
resemble what Jesus taught.
Family
Dinners:
-
Exodus
12;21-28 - We begin with the family dinner known as the original Passover
meal. It was a family dinner with instruction not only for
preparing the lamb but included instruction to prepare for the death
angel that would pass over that night.
-
Exodus
24:9-11 - Here we have a meeting of Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and
Abihu as well as seventy elders, all who ascended the mountain at
God's instruction. It concludes with they beheld God, and ate
and drank.
-
Nehemiah
8:9-14 - After the reading of the law by Ezra we have recorded the
eating of a meal and the sharing with those who do not have something
to eat.
-
Luke
22:14-18 - Here we have the institution of the Lord's
Supper. Notice in particular verse 15 where Jesus says "I
have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I
Suffer."
