Introduction to a series on The Christian World View
Colossians
1:15-23
Today begins
a series on the Christian World View. In the introduction we are
reminded that there basic understands that a Christian must
have. It is necessary to have a proper understand of the differences
between a Christian World view and other cultural world views. This
sometimes, so to speak, requires us to view our culture from an outside
perspective rather than from within the culture.
The
following foundational beliefs apply regardless of he topic.
Examples would be creation, the fall, etc.
Basic
Understandings:
-
Culture
is what people make of the world around them. Culture is man
made. Animals adapt to their surroundings. Humans change
culture.
-
Should
we coexist? YES, but not all are equal. Why, because not
all truth claims can be true.
-
Pluralism
means many ways. When you have contradictory claims they could
both be false, but they can't both be true.
-
Culture
abhors intolerance except their own intolerance of anyone else's
intolerance.
-
Religion
is not part of culture.
-
We must
remember that God is: He is the I AM.
-
As
Christians we believe the Bible is true. Our story is
objectively true.
-
Romans
12:2 - tells us not to be conformed to this world, but to be
transformed by the renewal of your mind.
-
The way
to God is clear.
John
14:6 - Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No on
comes to God except through Jesus.
Acts
4:12 - There is salvation in in no one other than Jesus. He
is the only one by which we must be saved. 1
Timothy 2:5 - The is one God. There is one mediator between
God and men. That one mediator is Christ Jesus.
