Heaven - Hell

Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43

The subject of heaven and hell is real and part of the Christians Biblical World View.   There is a heaven and there is a hell.  There is no avoiding heaven or hell, it is one or the other.  Universalism, would say all will be saved.  That is wishful thinking.  The idea is simply not biblical.  Believing and obeying is the key to heaven.  Those who reject reject Christ chose hell.

Points to Ponder:

  • Christ will return; that is real.

  • The scriptures on a number of occasions talk about separation or sorting.  Two examples would be the sheep and goats or the 10 virgins.  Five were wise and got to celebrate the wedding banquet. Five were foolish and missed the wedding banquet.

  • Good deeds don't give us heaven.  As stated, believing and obeying is the key to heaven.  Interestingly, there are rewards in heaven based on our faithful which can be thought of as good deeds.

  • Hell is a place prepared for the devil and his angels.

  • People chose to go to hell because their deeds are evil and they hate God.  As C .S. Lewis says, "the doors of hell are locked on the inside.?

  • There is much about heaven that we don't comprehend.  Think about it, streets of gold.  We understand from the description we have that it is wonderful beyond our imagination.

  • There is much about hell that we don't comprehend.  How can you have darkness and fire at the same time.  What we do understand is that hell is terrible beyond our imagination.
