Marriage

Ephesians 5:25-33

As we continue our series on a biblical world view we are reminded that what we believe is what we do.  Our views about male/female effect our view of marriage.  God has a design for marriage.  There is a secular world view on marriage and there is a spiritual world view on marriage.

The secular world view on marriage is designed around the paradigm of providing for self interest.  It provides for numerous pragmatic benefits.  A few examples would be emotional support, possible financial benefits, as well as companionship in the senior years etc..

The Christian world view on marriage is designed around the paradigm that emulate the relationship between Jesus and the church.  It also provides for some of the same pragmatic benefits as the secular world view of marriage.  However, the husband is called to love his wife 100% with heart, mind, and body.  There is no opt out.  The love expressed here is agape commitment.  Husbands are to be God's representative in the home; the home being a small church.  It is man's responsibility to care for his wife just like he cares for himself.  To neglect your wife is to neglect yourself.  What goes around comes around.

Points to Ponder:

  • Adam was incomplete without Eve and gave up a rib.

  • Man was incomplete without a savior and Jesus gave up His blood.

  • A marriage the imitates Christ speaks loudly to the world around us.

  • One learns to a greater degree the depth of your own selfishness in marriage.
