The Events of Holy Week

Hebrews 9:11-15, John 6:47-59, John 13:1-17

Communion is a reminder of the price that was paid for our redemption.  We need this reminder and were told to "do this in remembrance of me."  What does it mean to eat this bread?  It is affirming our belief in Jesus.  The expression "eating his flesh" is an extension of eating manna and from it we should draw substance.  At the Passover meal there was a lamb.  As Jesus celebrated Passover before his crucifixion why is there no mention of the lamb?  It is because Jesus was the lamb.

We celebrate communion with foot washing.  Scripture gives no warnings about failing to do such.  However, there is a blessing that goes with this activity; John 13:17.  In Luke 22:26-27 Jesus tells us that leaders should serve and sets an example  We should learn to be servants.
